Two more bite the dust
As expected, Koppen was put on IR today, though it was a separated shoulder rather than a broken arm. A quasi-surprise addition to the IR list was Gay. The decimation of the defensive backfield continues.

Ouch. Separated shoulders hurt a lot. Losing Koppen is bad though. He’s probably the second-best lineman on the team after Light.
Well, at least Ellis Hobbs didn’t look that bad on Sunday, and Michael Stone looked better than he did two weeks ago(not that he could have looked much worse). Still, I have some small amount of hope that the Samuel-Hobbs-Wilson-Stone backfield can at least stay on the field together for a few games in a row – I feel like in Belichick’s system you need to keep the same DBs on the field so that they get to some sort of comfort level.

Yeah. I’m sure will have his share of getting burned, but it was so nice to see a Patriots corner actually play up on a receiver instead of conceding a cushion of Starkian proportions.
And while I don’t think Wilson will recover his form of the past two years this year, I’m hoping some stability in the defensive backfield will get him at least somewhat out of his funk.
